Your Rincon Counseling Department does more than just academic guidance and college/career advice. We are also available for social-emotional support. All three areas matter for success in school and life, so we are here to help.
School counselors are vital educators who guide students' social-emotional growth. Our department is prepared to assist students with interpersonal relationships, stress, bullying, family troubles, self-advocacy, managing emotions, and making appropriate choices. Through individual, group, and classroom counseling, we advocate for mental health resources to ensure students are prepared for life after graduation.
Research shows that supporting students' social-emotional growth leads to better grades and learning outcomes, improved social skills and behavior, less stress and fewer problems like substance abuse, and stronger relationships with teachers and peers. We strive for this each day by helping to create a positive and welcoming school environment, and partnering with teachers, families, and community resources.
We recognize that there are many barriers that students face when it comes to their education. Some students struggle with food insecurity, housing instability, or dysfunctional family dynamics. In our department, we have a hub for basic neccessities, whether that's snacks, toiletries, clothes, or school supplies. When our students have what they need to be successful it's much easier for them to focus on what matters most.
We are not therapists, but we are able to support students with a variety of mental health concerns. For additional support, we have community connections to help students access long-term mental health care with licensed therapists, psychiatrists, and social workers.
Bottom line: do not hesitate to reach out to us no matter what you're going through. Just sign up on our doors or send us an email. Together we can ensure a positive learning experience for all students so that they have the support they need to succeed—now and in the future.
